Balázs Hidvéghi

He has been a member of Fidesz since 1989. In the 1990s, he was active in the party’s foreign affairs working group. From 2004, he served as secretary and political advisor to the Hungarian delegation of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament. Following Fidesz’s victory in 2010, he was Deputy State Secretary for Foreign Economic Affairs, EU Affairs, and International Relations at the Ministry of National Economy between 2010 and 2012. From 2011 to 2012, he also served as Chair of the OECD National Council in Hungary.

Since November 2012, he has been the head of Fidesz’s outreach to Hungarian communities beyond the borders and a member of the party’s campaign team. He served as a Member of the National Assembly from 2013 to 2014. During this time, he was Vice-Chair of the Committee on National Cohesion and a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the Hungarian Parliament.

From 2014 to 2016, he was a senior advisor to the Governor of the Hungarian National Bank, later serving as its spokesperson. Between 2016 and 2019, he was Director of Communications for Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance.

In 2019, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament. From 2019 to 2024, he served on the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), as well as on the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the Committee on Foreign Affairs. During his five-year term in the European Parliament, he actively represented and defended Hungary’s position in numerous high-profile debates and was a regular commentator in both Hungarian and international media.

Since autumn 2024, he has once again been serving as a Member of the Hungarian National Assembly and as Parliamentary State Secretary and Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office.
