dr. Péter Sztáray

dr. Péter Sztáray graduated in 1993 from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). Between 1993 and 1994, he pursued studies at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

Starting in 1993, he worked as a desk officer for NATO and Western Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1996 to 2000, he served in Brussels as a diplomat at the Permanent Mission of Hungary to NATO. Between 2000 and 2002, he was Deputy Head of the Western Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 2002 he was appointed Head of the Americas Department. From 2002 to 2003, he headed the NATO Department.

From 2003, he served for four years as Deputy Permanent Representative of Hungary to NATO in Brussels. Between 2007 and 2009, he was Deputy Director for Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also serving as Deputy Head of Department.From 2009 to 2010, he held the position of Director for Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the rank of Head of Department. From 2010 to 2013, he served as Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the rank of Deputy State Secretary.From 2013 to 2018, he was Hungary’s Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels. Since 23 June 2018, he has been serving as State Secretary for Security Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
