Szilárd Demeter

Petőfi Literary Museum

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Hungarian Culture, Director General of the Petőfi Literary Museum, Hungarian writerpolitical analyst, publicist, musician and, by education, philosopher. He is the author of numerous volumes as well as academic and publicist writings.

In 1999, he graduated in philosophy from the Babeș-Bolyai University (BBTE) in Cluj-Napoca. He was the editor for philosophy of the cultural journal Korunk and the philosophical journal Kellék, and later a member of their editorial boards. As a lecturer, he founded the university publishing house of the Partium Christian University and was editor of the university’s academic journal.

Between 2008 and 2014, he was the press officer and later the office manager of Bishop László TőkésMEP.

Between 2014 and 2018, he was a research analyst at the Századvég Foundation in Hungary.

In 2015, he co-founded the Outpost Writers’ Academy in Budapest. He was the founding editor-in-chief and later director of Előretolt Helyőrség (Outpost), a newspaper aimed at presenting Hungarian literary life in the Carpathian Basin.

He has been the Director General of the Petőfi Literary Museum since December 2018, starting his second term in 2024.

Between 2019 and 2021, he was Ministerial Commissioner for the integrated development of the Hungarian book sector and public literary collections, and, as from 2020, Ministerial Commissioner for the coordination and socialisation of Hungarian popular music.

Since 2021 he has been the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Hungarian Culture.
