MORE
Europe’s energy supply crisis and the Russo-Ukrainian war have brought new challenges to an energy sector that had already been rapidly changing due to decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitisation megatrends. The diversity of drivers and the dynamic changes in the regulatory environment present significant planning challenges for both government and market actors. A cross-disciplinary approach is needed to explore and predict the multidimensional relationships that shape the business environment. The Energy and Climate Policy division’s industry expertise is complemented by Századvég’s macroeconomic, digital and public opinion research capabilities, enabling the division to offer its clients a uniquely complex service package in the consulting market. Thanks to its diverse activities, the Business Unit’s profile increasingly includes research, development, innovation and communication projects, in addition to the policy preparation, regulatory, business consulting and sector analysis that formed a large part of its references in previous years.
Director

The past three years have seen highly controversial developments in global energy markets. The increase in gas prices in Europe, together with the increase in carbon dioxide emission allowance prices, has spilled over into EU electricity markets, where, as in the gas market, prices are reaching record highs; however, this significant increase in electricity prices is more a European than a global phenomenon. Our research projects in the past three years have also focused on the challenges of residential, municipal, and commercial energy use, the implementation of energy efficient solutions and the evaluation and monitoring of new national and international framework strategies. In addition to empirical research and consulting, we have presented our latest findings at conferences as well as Hungarian and international webinars.
We analyse the possible implementation of new innovative technologies, such as the moral dilemmas involved in developing self-driving cars, the possible socio-economic implications of AI-based decision-making and the use of alternative forms of financing to support effective energy efficiency investments. We are also examining support and infrastructure development opportunities for electric vehicles, reflecting on the challenges of the future.
